Dr. David John Hailey, Jr. began his pastorate at First Baptist Church of Oak Park in March 2019. A native of North Carolina, David John attended Campbell University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Church Music, Duke Divinity School where he earned a Master of Theological Studies, and returned to Campbell University to attend the Divinity School where he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree. David John enjoys creating thematic worship experiences, meeting people “where they are”, and finding ways to share Christ’s love in an ever-changing culture.

David John has been married to his wife, Claire, since 2011, but they began dating in high school back in 2003. Claire is a pediatrician at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. David John and Claire welcomed daughter Abigail in September 2021, and son David John III “John” in June 2024. The Haileys have two sweet Labrador retrievers named Kylie and Quinn. You’ll likely find David John on a golf course, watching a sporting event, or singing and playing his guitar when not at church.
